EDIT Driving Down I-40 w/ my new black iPod
Recently, I won a bet with my wife. Okay, not an actual monetarily involved bet, as much as I bet this will happen.

My dad got himself an iPod today; a black, 30G Video iPod. Not too long ago he replaced his Dell laptop with a new 20" iMac. As soon as he got it, I knew eventually, he would be getting an iPod.

As odd as it sounds, it actually makes some kind of since. He drives a truck in Elk City for a company involved in the oil industry. He, from time to time, has 13 to 14 hour work days. Being locked up in that truck with a radio that hardly works, in a part of Oklahoma where there is nothing, he would wish to be able to listen to something other than the rushing of wind and the rumbling of the engine.

He asked me lately to help him figure out how to put his DVDs on his iPod. Luckily I found a ripping software that'll convert it to the MP4 format. Personally, I feel as long as it's for his personal use, it's perfectly legal; no matter what Hollywood want's us to believe. As I understand copyright laws, from my teenage years with CDs, it is permitted to make one backup copy of media. That backup copy being an MP4 file, its still his copy. He bought the DVD, if Hollywood doesn't like it, that's their problem.

I know why he wants to have DVDs on his iPod. There are times he has to wait in his truck till his load is ready to be loaded or unloaded, leaving him sometimes hours of just sitting around. Guess he read all his books already.

But yeah, new technology, even technology as simple as an iPod, may not mix very well with parents. But since he got his Mac, he's been catching on pretty quick. He seems to understand how a Mac and other stuff from Apple works far better than PC based stuff. The last Mac he had was a Perform 320CD. Crappy little computer. It had OS 7.6. Going from that to OSX 10.4 was fairly daunting for him. But as soon as he understood the Doc and the new Finder, he was fine.

I remember when he had his laptop, I would get calls almost every day because his computer wouldn't let him do what he was trying to do.....like get on line via WiFi. He hated Windows XP and all the crap (Viruses & adware) that went along with it. Yeah, PCs are fine, but give me a Mac any day.
